Faculty Party 2026: See the photos

The ‘90s called. They wanted the faculty’s staff to come to a party – and what a party it turned out to be. Here are the photos from the 2026 Faculty Party.

This year, the faculty is celebrating its 90th anniversary, so naturally the annual Faculty Party was transformed into a 90s party.

There was no mistaking the feel-good decade at DGI-Huset on Friday 21 August 2026, as the decorations – and, not least, the music – transported the nearly 400 partygoers, many of them in costume, 30 years back in time.

And they were all there: the Spice Girls, flannel shirts, the Office 95 package, Buffalo shoes, the fixer from Pulp Fiction, chokers necklaces, scrunchies and tiny hair clips – and a subtle but unmistakable reference to the film The Silence of the Lambs.

“Same procedure as every year,” one is almost tempted to say. According to tradition, Dean Anne-Mette Hvas greeted every single member of staff from the faculty’s departments and administrative centre. And do take note of the number on the Dean’s hoodie.

Smooth jazz filled the foyer at DGI-Huset and the guests’ ears before everyone took their seats to enjoy a three-course dinner.

All the guests had made an effort, and many had rummaged through their wardrobes or scoured vintage websites to find clothes and accessories straight out of the 1990s. Some added the finishing touches – in the form of glitter and rhinestones – before the party got properly under way.

There was a queue for the in-house photographer, as the faculty’s most festive staff members and finest outfits were immortalised on camera. See all the photos of your colleagues in the photo gallery at the end of the article.

“It is now 90 years since the first medical students began their studies here, laying the foundation for what has grown into the internationally recognized environment in health sciences that we know today. Tonight, we celebrate that remarkable journey,” said Dean Anne-Mette Hvas in her welcome speech. She added that the decade also held a special place in her own heart: “I completed my medical degree in the mid-1990s and began my PhD-study during that same decade – also at Aarhus University. It was a time full of opportunities, new beginnings and great memories.”

The evening also featured a 90s quiz, with a fantastic prize for the winning team – or teams, as it turned out, after a tie. The heads of department had been tasked with revealing the correct answers to questions such as: When did Diana, Princess of Wales, die? When did Jens Christian Skou receive the Nobel Prize? Which film won the Palme d’Or in 1994? And when did the Royal Dental College become part of the Faculty of Health Sciences?

The live band We Are The 90’s gave it everything with a cornucopia of 90s hits, quickly filling the dance floor and keeping it buzzing until the party came to an end.

Who was there, and what were they wearing?
