Newsletter 69 from the Head of Department
Dear All - Here you have spring-fresh news from IOOS.

INTERNAL AT THE INSTITUTE
Mark your calendars: We will get help with our Pure profiles in week 13
As employees at Aarhus University, we must have completed our Pure profiles - and if not before, we will do so in the last week of March.
As part of the campaign project "Pure Profile Completion Week", Health Communication and the University's Pure Support will visit in week 13 and help us with text, new portrait photos and technical support.
At Aarhus University, it is mandatory for all employees to complete:
- Profile text
- Work areas
- Side job
Right now, only 1% of us at the Department have completed the mandatory Pure texts.
We have to do something about that. It makes good sense to have a completed and presentable Pure profile, because the Pure profiles are one of the first things that pops up if you google the name of an Aarhus University employee. Foundations and collaboration partners do this regularly.
Before long, you will receive a separate email with offers and times during the Pure week, but already now put a mark in your calendar for Tuesday 25 March, when there is an employee photo shoot at the Department.
And use the tools attached to the Newsletter here to quickly write and upload the mandatory Pure texts.
Faculty of Health steps up climate efforts: Focus on fewer flights
We are working on several fronts to create a greener institute and faculty, e.g. by reducing energy consumption, recycling waste and ordering vegetarian meeting catering.
As air transport forms part of our climate footprint, the Faculty of Health is now introducing several principles for air travel that should make it easier to make climate-conscious choices.
The main principles are:
- Fly less – as far as possible replace travel with digital meetings and virtual participation, only participate in conferences with flying distance if you yourself have an active role or leave the space to junior researchers with smaller networks to expand.
- Choose alternative forms of transport – do not fly domestically and choose train, bus or car whenever possible.
- If you must fly – book travel through Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT), choose economy class and prioritize direct flights.
You can read more about the initiatives and see the new principles for air travel on the Climate page on Health's employee website.
Use the new Faculty of Health PowerPoint presentation
Faculty of Health has prepared a new PowerPoint presentation, which gives an overview of the Faculty's activities – e.g. our research, collaborations and education.
You are very welcome to use it as a template if you are to give a presentation or, for example, represent Faculty of Health or the Department at a conference.
The template can be adjusted to whatever is relevant for your various presentations, and it is on Health's employee website.
RESEARCH, EDUCATION AND TEACHING
We open the doors to the university clinics during Research Day
When Research Day starts in Aarhus on Wednesday 23 April, we invite the public into our clinics so that they get an insight into where and how we train the dental care team. Lecturers and students are in charge of the tour, and the visitors will be introduced to our dental units, specialist clinics and the simulation clinics.
The Department's clinics are one of only three selected tour locations at Aarhus University that the public will have access to this year.
Can you ditch the toothbrush tomorrow?
Professor Sebastian Schlafer, Section for Oral Ecology, answers this when he gives a presentation on the bacteria of the oral cavity [In Danish] to high school students from all over the country. The research presentation at upper secondary school level takes place on Thursday March 27 with physically participating high school students and via live streaming to high schools around Denmark.
The offer of lectures to the upper secondary schools is a great opportunity to share our knowledge with society and make future generations of IOOS students interested in our subject area. If you would like to try your hand at the high school presentations, contact project manager Stinne Faldborg Jørgensen from the Rolling University at Aarhus University.
Important changes in the research year: The Faculty of Health financed scholarships will cease to exist
If you have students who have the potential to become research year students, you must be aware of important changes. As of this year, the Faculty of Health's scholarships for the research year will no longer apply, and therefore applicants must in future secure external funding in advance of applying.
At the same time, the application process will be updated, and the case processing will be shorter. This means that the deadlines for applications in future are mid-May and mid-November. New forms and instructions are available from 1 April this year.
Read more about the research year on the Graduate School's website.
The new curriculum for the dental education is mentioned in The Danish Dental Journal
The Danish Dental Journal has shown interest in the just-approved new curriculum for the master's part of the dental education - and for the competencies of the graduates who would be educated from this programme in a few years. Head of Studies Odontology Irene Dige contributes to the article "Dental students must handle more complex situations [In Danish]", published in the latest edition of The Danish Dental Journal.
